On the Call

What we'll talk about.

So you know what you're walking into — here's the shape of a typical first conversation with Jim. Plan on 15 to 30 minutes.

  • Where you live and who's in the home. City, household, kids, other animals. Helps Jim picture the dog's life.
  • Why you want a Labrador. Family pet, hunting companion, active outdoor home, a bit of all three. There's no wrong answer — but it shapes which puppy is the right match.
  • Your experience with dogs. Past breeds, especially Labs or other sporting breeds. Doesn't have to be deep — first-time Lab owners are welcome.
  • Color and sex preference, if any. This litter is all yellow — five males, three females. No preference is fine too.
  • Questions for Jim. Health clearances, pedigree, what's included, how the placement works, anything else. Ask everything.
  • Next steps. If it sounds like a fit on both sides, Jim will walk you through the deposit and reservation process.

FAQ

What people ask first.

How does the application process work?

It starts with a phone call. You ring Jim at (541) 892-7808 and we talk through your life, your home, and what you're looking for in a dog. If both sides feel right, we accept a deposit to reserve a puppy from the current or upcoming litter. No online form, no email queue — just a conversation.

How much is the deposit?

Deposits are typically a portion of the total puppy price and are confirmed during the conversation. They're applied directly to the final price. Deposits can be paid by cash, Venmo, or Zelle.

What does a puppy cost? Are payment plans available?

Puppies start at $2,500 for limited registration (pet home) and $3,500 for full registration (approved breeding or competition homes). Payment plans are available — a deposit reserves the puppy and the balance can be split on a schedule that works for both sides. If the puppy is the right fit but the price is a stretch, call Jim and talk it through. He'd rather place a dog with the right family than hold out for top dollar.

Can I visit the puppies before bringing one home?

Yes — visits are welcome by appointment once a deposit is in place. We're in Sprague River, Oregon (Klamath County). For buyers traveling longer distances, we're happy to send additional photos and short videos.

What papers does my puppy come with?

Every puppy leaves with AKC registration paperwork (limited or full, depending on placement), a complete record of vet visits and vaccinations, deworming records, and the full pedigree information for both parents — including OFA records.

Will the puppy be hunting-dog material?

Yes. Both parents are working dogs from working lineage. The dam is a hunting Labrador retrieving on the Sprague River daily. The sire comes from a kennel that produces gun dogs, show dogs, and service dogs. With consistent training, these puppies have what it takes for hunt work — but they also make excellent family dogs without it. Drive and steadiness come from the line either way.

Do you ship puppies?

We strongly prefer in-person pickup. Meeting the family is part of how we choose placements. We're willing to discuss other arrangements case by case, but a face-to-face meeting at some point is part of the process.

What if something doesn't work out?

This is the most important question. Of forty puppies placed across fifteen years, only one has come back to us — and we took her without hesitation. That's the standard: if you ever can't keep one of our dogs, for any reason, she comes back here. We'd rather have her with us than in the wrong home.

Is there a contract?

We're in the process of formalizing a written purchase agreement that covers health guarantees, return policy, and registration terms. We'll share that during the application conversation. Our handshake practice over fifteen years on this line has been: vet-checked, healthy puppies; honest representation of the breeding; and a standing offer to take any of our dogs back, ever.

Can I talk to your veterinarian?

Yes — ask and we'll give you our vet's contact info. Talk to the person who has actually examined every dog in this program. Form your own opinion before any money changes hands. Most breeders won't offer this; we do, because we have nothing to hide.

Where are you located?

Sprague River, Oregon — in Klamath County, the high desert/forest country of south-central Oregon. We're about an hour northeast of Klamath Falls.
